Baby quilt part 2

Good evening! I hope that your Monday was a joy! I must say that I greatly enjoyed the sunshine that we were given today along with the cool, spring-like air that came with it. I worked on the ambulance today and was thrilled to be able to breath in that fresh air and feel the warmth of the sun.

As promised, this is the second part to the baby quilt that I was working on last weekend. I was hoping to have posted this yesterday but I was sick on Saturday and still recovering yesterday and so today it is!

I finished the quilt top on Sunday night and Tuesday evening I set the quilt layers together on the long-arm quilting machine and got busy! I chose to do a random meandering pattern that covered a relatively large area per square inch so that when the quilt is washed and the fabrics do their initial shrink, the finished product will take on a cozy, puffier feel. If I had chosen to do a tighter pattern the quilt would have been a bit more stiff and would not have been as soft for baby.

Front and back with meandering quilting pattern. (Don’t mind my off-center pinwheels, I chose completed over perfection this time.)

This adorable green checkered print was the selected fabric for the binding and I think that it framed the quilt pretty nicely! I love to pick a darker-colored fabric for the binding of a quilt as I think that it can give it the appearance of being in a picture frame. If you pay attention, you may notice that the binding on a quilt can make certain colors in it “pop” and can also lend some stability to your eye as you admire the finished piece.

These greens and blues were so much fun to work with. Have a joyful day!
