Hello, hello! This week started off with a couple of night shifts and the first days of a logic class that I taking to continue progress towards an Associates degree. I must say that I thrive when there is something to learn… which, if we are honest, is all the time. Having the structure of a class is so lovely however, and being able to ask questions when one is stuck is invaluable. To say that I got a lot of painting in this week would be lying and so I will not say that. However, painting some more song birds is what today’s focus is and so I will be able to very soon add some pictures to my gallery and hopefully do a Sunday art update. Earlier in the week, I was able to make excellent progress on a flannel shirt for my brother-in-law. I gave him the choice fabrics and snaps for a shirt for Christmas and I am slowly putting the selected pieces together. He chose a cozy orange, black and cream plaid flannel with white pearl snaps. I am making it in a western shirt style and instead of perfectly lining up the plaid as I have done in the past, I am setting the cuffs, collar and embellishing pieces on the diagonal to give it a different look. So far, I am liking the appearance of it. Flannel shirts are one of my favorite things to sew, they are practical, warm, beautiful and also nostalgic. I was first inspired to make them by my Grandma who made shirts for my Grandpa and then the rest of the family, I started with one for my mom and have not looked back! Someday I shall do a tutorial post on the process of making one. They are so fun!
